Riding in a Group - a Short Guide (Posted: 4th Dec 2004)
Many of the Cambridge CC activities are run as group rides. For reasons of aerodynamic efficiency and to be sociable the riders normally ride close together. Various Cambridge CC initiatives have produced an influx of novice riders. Unfortunately novice riders often do not have the knowledge and skills for safe group riding. Therefore I have written a one page guide to riding in/with a group of cyclists, such as the Cambridge CC clunruns. The guide has been deliberately kept short and gives advice to both 'normal' riders and to the group 'leader'.  Click here to see the guide in draft form, please feed any comments back to me.

James and Digby go Mad in Toytown (Posted: 2nd Sept 2004)
James Ward and Digby Symonds, both Cambridge CC Members, came head to head in the Toytown races. Despite much frantic rocking of their chosen toys, neither gained much of an advantage. In the end their efforts were frustrated when a small girl (age about 3) on a red pedal bus overtook them just before the finish. They replied 'no comment' when they were asked if they were going to enter the Toy Tour professional race; it is believed that they are waiting to see if team Elf will ride before deciding.

Notice of AGM - Monday 1st November (Posted: 2nd Oct 2004)
Will be held in the lecture theatre of the new science building at Hills Road Sixth Form College – plenty of cycle parking on site and some car parking. Motions we have had submitted about reallocating the prizes we have for racing so there are more genuine categories for competition. If you have any motion to be raised at the AGM please do so this month so I can get it in to the newsletter? This should be with you just before the AGM in November. Glen Taylor

Mike Stapleton's Audax 100km on 26th September (Posted: 2nd Sept 2004)
The traditional end-of-season Audax jaunt is almost upon us. Mike Stapleton's audax starts from Hauxton village Hall at 10am on 26th September. This has been a good ride in past years with many Cambridge CC members entering. Meet as normal at Addenbrooke's at 0900h and then those that want to ride it can travel to the start together. Please contact Mike (His number is: 01763 261241) for entry forms and further details or go to the Audax UK website. It will be very helpful to him if you could pre-enter rather than just turning up on the day.

Ike Saul Road Race Results (Posted: 26th July 2004)
The Ike Saul Memorial Road Race took place on the 25th July. The five circuits (106km) of the undulating Eversdens course gave rise to some close racing. A number of breaks gained small time advantages but near the end all of these had been pulled back by the main bunch. Only the small drag up to the finish prevented the sprint being contested by (the remains of) the entire field. In the end there was a close sprint between a group of 15 riders who crossed the line seconds before the rest of the field. The top 10 places were as follows:

1st    Joel Stewart - London Irish CC
2nd   Martin Meades - API
3rd    Richard Hare - Victoria CC
4th    Marco Coppola - Gemini BC
5th    Jim McManus - Interbike RT
6th    Ed Graefe - Team Economic Energy
7th    Phil Holloway - Southend Wheelers
8th    Nick Hastler - Essex Roads
9th    James Ward - Cambridge CC (Best 3rd cat)
10th  Ron Hewes - Harlow CC

Thanks to Digby Symons for organising the event and to all the helpers and marshals that helped to make the day such a success.

End of Hibernation 200(Posted: 13th March 2004)
Lucy Rutter organised the End of Hibernation 200 audax on the 7th March. About 60 of the 73 registered riders started the ride on a wet, chilly and breezy day. However, the undulating scenic route partly made up for the weather which did its best not to cooperate. It was great to get back to the HQ to find lashings of hot tea, mountains of 'cyclists' food and Lucy's smiling face (have you ever seen her not smiling?). Well done to Lucy and her merry band of helpers.
